Lily McAteer started dancing at the age of four, and was mentored as a young dancer by New York City Ballet’s Patricia McBride and John- Pierre Bonnefoux, receiving the John Pierre Bonnefoux Merit Scholarship. Lily has danced with Ballet Neo, Eglevsky Ballet, Xaoc Ballet, and Nomad Contemporary Ballet, as well as in works by Anna Sokolow, Camille A. Brown, Emery LeCrone, and Sean Curran. She was awarded a B.F.A. (Magna Cum Laude) in Dance Performance from the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater/Fordham University, where she studied with distinguished faculty members Milton Myers, Ana Marie Forsythe, Jacqulyn Buglisi, Lynn Glauber Mendel, and others. As a choreographer, Lily has created works for The Ailey School, and for professional productions of Carousel, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Hamlet, Disney’s The Sleeping Beauty, Annie Get Your Gun, and Kiss Me Kate (with Antonio Brown), as well as serving as Dance Captain for the Brian Cox directed production of Sinners. As Dance and Programs Director for The Mirror Theater, Lily created and taught all Arts-in-Education and Community Outreach classes. She has choreographed and taught on all levels - from Tony nominated Broadway performers to dance beginners, and loves working with dancers of every experience. Lily has previously been on faculty at The Ailey School and also teaches at The School at Mark Morris Dance Group and Brooklyn Music School. Lily’s work has been called near genius in its capacity to connect and inspire. She loves bringing her passion for dance to everyone, introducing her students to new dance forms, providing positive challenges, opening up their creativity, and encouraging their success.
